Use Direct TV receiver with new (not Direct Tv) cable service?
I just moved and have a perfectly good Direct TV satelite receiver / DVR ... but the building I am in is already piped for basic cable. I connected everything together but its not working for me.
Is there anything I can do (other than order DTV) to make this receiver work with cable?

Sorry, not a chance.
You need the dish to make that receiver work.
CATV boxes work on a RF frequency and satellite boxes operate by sending a low voltage signal to the dish to amplify the microwave signal.
It's like apples and oranges.
