Gastric bypass surgery?

My hb wants this surgery. If you look at the low end of his ideal weight, he's about 95 lbs overweight, however considering his body type, I'd say he's more likely about 75-80 lbs overweight. He has given up on correcting his eating habits & sedentary lifestyle and decided that his only recourse is surgery. He also has backaches, high blood pressure & a family history of cancer. He has badgerred his physician so much that he has referred him to a specialist for consideration for the surgery. He doesn't even want to lose weight now for fear he won't be a good candidate.

I am so upset and concerned about this major surgery. I think he can accomplish his weight loss through modifiying his diet and getting some excercise. I have told him that I can and will help him in both areas. I'm not overweight at all, so maybe I'm not as understanding as I could be, but I believe he could do this himself...without surgery.

Has anyone had the surgery or been on my end? Any suggestions?

Hi..I work in a hospital so I can only tell you what I have seen....in most cases they only will do the surgery when other methods have failed ( diets/exercise/ programs ie: Weight Watchers etc) and the person should be 100lbs overweight . Unfortunately, if your husband does not want to watch his diet or exercise (as little as walking) this surgery will fail also. Of course you will lose weight as you are unable to eat larger portions without getting sick/vomiting...but I've seen it....even after initial weight loss with surgery the patient can regain the weight they have lost by not eating correctly or adding exercise. The stomach can stretch again....they reduce it to the size of your thumb. This is not a surgery to be taken lightly...some experience some nasty side effects that you need to also discuss with the surgeon. Its mainly used for obese people with health issues to reduce their risk of death when all else has failed. Please investigate the surgery more.....before you decide and find a surgeon who has done MANY procedures and gives you the straight scoop ( complications, aftercare, etc.)..its not a walk in the park! If the surgery was a quick fix ~ everyone would be thin. It didn't take him overnight to gain the weight it will not be an overnight fix to get it off and keep it off either. Best of luck. Find a good bariatric physician.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

    Hope this helps.

I had the surgery and it was fun while it lasted.....the surgery itself was a piece of cake; however, gaining the weight back is the worst struggle in the world!! It's like I had a glimsp of what it was like to be slim and then taken from me. I have been a big girl all my life and having the carrot dangle before me was more than I ever want to go thru again.
