Why do people think being Gay is a choice ?

I thought sins were temptations, don't steal, don't covet, don't lie... I have never been tempted by a mans hairy ***. So what temptation are they giving in too ? Are all christian men fighting an urge I don't know about ?

Update:

Well Laffy Taffy, maybe god has made so many gay people to slow down the over population of our poor planet.

Where is God's wife? I have never heard anyone mention a committed relationship that God was in. But he turned out okay. So maybe this woman-man combination is not the highest state humans can attain. If we want to be like God, maybe we just have to be good people, the best people we can.

I think there are a lot of good gay people within fundamentalist churches. Gays seem to have a natural gift to preserve the spiritual teachings of societies. Unfortunately, churches have exploited those gifts without allowing for the more corporal accommodations.

Jerry Fallwell said on Christmas Eve that if you are raised by a good Christian man and woman in a Christian household then you would turn out straight. One would think a man sharp enough to have all his money would see all the exceptions to that.

Most people are afraid of anyone who is different from themselves. A lot of people don't understand what it is to be gay. Some research has said it is a biology. That a gay person has too many of the opposite genes and becomes sexually confused (pardon the phrase) and is attracted to the same sex.

For me I think we should look at it like this, love is dumb, deaf & blind and it should not matter who we love as long as we love someone and are loved in return. I am sure there are religious beliefs that say it's wrong but you can find tons of things in every religon that says not only being gay is a sin but so is tattooing your body, or piercing your body, or working on the sabbath or killing another human being. Seeing as every culture, every race has been in some kind of war, civil altercation, revolt or killing in the name of their God or religious belief, I don't think anyone has any right to say it is bad, un-Godly, a sin to love another person, whether they be man to man or woman to woman.

We should worry more about loving each other as we are and geting along before it is too late. Who are you to say who I can love??? Or for that matter who am I???

I am straight (not that it matters) but a big supporter of people who love people...Gay straight or otherwise...

I think you should explain what you mean by "sin". What exactly is sin? I think if you had a proper understanding of what sin is then you could answer your own questions. You say that you think that "sins were temptations" all sin can be said to be based upon temptation. They are two seperate things - sin and temptation. Sin implies the breaking of a moral code and temptation the presence of a desire.

You go on to say that you "have never been tempted by a mans hairy ***" Well to take your idea/argument to its natural and logical conclusion: I ask you the following question - Have you ever looked at a girl and been tempted by her looks and what she has between her legs? If so then you have answered your third question "...what temptation are they giving in to"...the answer is really quite simple - it comes down to one word "Lust".

Simply put, I mean that sin is sin and heterosexual men and women are as guilty of it as are gay men and women

There is no "urge" to be gay. There might be a sexual interest, but that's not being gay, since homosexuality involves an emotional preference of the same sex as well as a physical one. But some people don't understand that being gay is genetic, and that you can't be tempted into a "gay lifestyle."

i think that it's about an attitude towards difference. a heterosexual person who is opposed to homosexuality cannot fathom a gay lifestyle. instead of attempting to broaden one's own horizons and reach out to the gay community to show solidarity and begin understanding, they perhaps develop this idea of homosexuality as a choice in order to explain away something they find entirely unacceptable and inexplicable.

People think it's a choice because they don't understand and aren't educated. Logically, who would chose a lifestyle that many dispise and hate. It's like telling straight people to be gay because they are chosing the straight life.

The people who think being Gay is a choice are just acting out good consumer behavior. They think it is like choosing between ordinary Hellman's mayonnaise and fat free, or something along those lines. They think it is all a matter of taste OR a matter of rational decision-making. However, they are wrong. It is simply a matter of feeling -- but I guess their cash (or their desire for more of it) gets between their senses and their sense. No doubt they are confused about sense and cents, don't you think?

Because religious fanatics do not think for themselves, and when they do it is not a logical process, but instead a silly repetition of whatever their pastor/church leaders have told them to believe. Or it's taken from the bible despite the many translations from various languages it's undergone by individuals with ulterior motives. You can't logically discuss issues with individuals that don't think logically.

because they CHOOSE not to know any better just to be vindictive ,nasty, ignorant, perverted..............

and some might even quote the bible Koran blah bla blah, those you have to be most afraid of because their temptation is to HURT you as much as possible. It is very surprising indeed how much pain and suffering these religious homophobes are trying to instill.every one and I mean every one was made by god .
