What is the best way to straighten thick curly hair?

My daughter has thick curly hair and has tried the straight iron but it did not work; what else can we try for her? I do not want a permament solution because she has beautiful hair.

My daughter and I both have curly hair. My daughters' is very long, kinky, and thick. We use a CHI flat iron, Paul Mitchell Super Skinny, and Bed Head Control Freak Serum 3. Place two pumps of Super Skinny in your palms and rub together. Rub into dripping wet hair. Be sure to get the ends. I then put about a quarter size amount of Control Freak on my palms and rub that into my hair. Let your hair dry naturally or dry with a hair dryer. Using a brush or comb and the flat iron straighten small sections. You will have to go over the sections several times until hair is smooth. Do not leave the flat iron in one place for to long, keep moving. When I'm done I like to use a very small amount of Sebastian Molding Mud. I have used cheap flat irons (like the kind you buy at Wal Mart), and they do not work anywhere near as well as a CHI. Good luck!

I also have really thick curly hair and I don't know if you would like this option for your daughter but I ask my hair stylist to thin my hair out and it actually helps a lot when I go through the process of straightening my hair. I'm assuming it's to much to to blow dry her hair straight because it is for me...so you should probably try a better flat iron...I purchased the "solia" it can be found at folica.com there are also many other options that are very good and still "cheap" ( I put cheap in quotations because it's not cheap but actually cheaper than the other $200 flat irons.) The price is actually worth it in my opinion because I use it everyday. Good luck! Oh yeah and another thing...I use hair serum...you should probably try that also it really smooths the hair out.

Take this for what its worth.

My daughter and I both have thick naturally curly long hair. When I was 16 I tried to use a straightener on my hair and burnt it so badly that I had to get it cut really short.

Now as for my daughter she wants her hair straight sometimes and she uses a hair straighting iron and it works for that day only, then shes back to normal.

The only way is to permenant straighten it or talk to a beautician about a quick fix since your isn't working.

    Good Luck

Did you have the iron work professionally done? I have never come across hair that did not straighten when done properly and using proper product, taking SMALL sections. Also, it needs to be blown straight with round brush first, also in small sections. There is no other way besides permanent straightening, because of the structure of the hair.

I even have thick curly hair and wish for it to be permentantly rapidly yet its the hair my mama gave me...lmao anyhow when I straighten it i take advantage of a regularly occurring conair straightener yet i do it in layers...case in point i visit tie up the precise of my hair with a hair tie or clip and that i visit do the underneathe first...it takes me a on the same time as yet as im straightening i visit spray a lilbit of hair spray on my hair....then i visit enable down yet another layer of hair on the same time as puttin up something and straightenin it with the backside layer...for me to get my hair the way i decide on it ,it generally takes me bout an hour to do...yet whilst its accomplished evidently particularly stable and its so gentle and if i dont get it moist it particularly is going to stay like that for bout 2 days...in case you attempt this i wish it particularly works for you...

my sister actually got the Japanese chemical straightener it ran about 400$ but was well worth it you may also try a cheaper chemical straightener like in your local drug store. also use a good straightening serum like Paul Mitchell super skinny and a good flat iron i use the Paul Mitchell flat iron sedu and chi are also amazing and wrap your hair with a scarf at night don't wash everyday unless you really need to and makes sure your hair has good moisture this way your hair is more manageable.

The best item I've found, and I've tried a lot of them, is a certain Hair Iron in an infomercial that has "grooves" for your hair to flow through. I don't even have to blow dry my hair straight first. It works on dry hair with some styling product in it.

Well of course you wash it first, blow dry, then use a really good flat iron. Try using straightening products like Paul Mitchell. They have a great straightening spray called "Spray Wax" I recommend you try it. They sell Paul Mitchell at most beauty supplie stores. Try Planet Beauty. Theyre sure to have it!

You need a professional ceramic flat iron with temperature settings; FHI, CHI, H2O. A good one usually starts at $100. Use a product with it a few good ones Brocato hot shapes, Sexy-flat iron spray, Paul Mitchell skinny serum. They will help with straightening and keeping the frizz away. Then it's practice.
