Do Shar Pei dogs get more wrinkles or less as they age?

I have a Shar Pei mix, so we don't know exactly what to expect. We got him at 8 weeks and now he's 11 weeks old. He seems to be getting more wrinkles! But we don't know for sure. Do Shar Pei's typically get more or less wrinkly as they age, or are they just born with all the wrinkles that they'll have and that's that?

Update:

He's mixed with Terrier (likely rat terrier or fox terrier). He pretty much looks like a little lab pup with a terrier ears. He's got some light wrinkles on his head and deeper wrinkles around his mouth and neck. When he's standing, the wrinkles are barely noticable, but when he lays down, the skin really wrinkles on his back and neck.

Update 2:

He's already enrolled in Puppy Preschool, and we're definately planning on further obedience. He's a little head shy and shy of strangers and the last thing we want is a dog which bites from fear! He's going to be well socialized, for sure.

The wrinkles get less as adults. Many adults just have the wrinkles on their faces. Since yours is a mix, it will most likely have less than a purebred - which is a blessing! This breed has horrible skin problems because of the wrinkles & many have a constant unpleasant smell to them because of this. Good luck!

p.s I also suggest you join an obedience class & take this dog on frequent walks in local parks to be exposed to other dogs & people to socialize it very well. Shar Peis tend to be a hard dog to deal with (not social w/other dogs & people), and doing this will help greatly towards making him a better, friendlier dog as an adult.

My mother's shar pei lost her wrinkles as she got older. Their skin is very loose when young so they have "room to grow in to it". If you have a Mix, then what is the other breed? Could be that his/her genetics are gearing up for a larger dog? More room to grow? In any case, I would think this is only temporary, but they are very cute dogs.

  • They get less wrinkled as they mature.

According to the Shar Pei Standard:

"The loose skin and wrinkles covering the head, neck and body are superabundant in puppies but these features may be limited to the head, neck and withers in the adult. "

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7Xp

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

i have a pure breed shar-pei, and as far as my knowlede goes in all the research work i did ... the wrinkles lessen when they grow ... it also depends on the type of mix you have though ... if the half breed is wrinkly maybe the wrinkly genes have more power then ...

wrinkles will stay about the same, what will increase is the vet bills. They have lots of skin problems that are gross. Hopefully whatever it is crossed with will minimize the wrinkles.

They only have wrinkles as pups. They grow into their skin.

Well, I have a staffordshire puppy and he was born with heaps of extra skin and he seems to be growing into it a bit so maybe thats with all dogs they just grow into it eventually...
