We will be having a house party to celebrate our silver wedding, suggestions for themes please?

We like parties and in the past have had the usual halloween, football, christmas, movie themed parties. There will be about forty people and a range of generations - any suggestions and thoughts about how to plan this will be very much appreciated. We are not at all soppy so please no renew vows ideas, we just aren't able to cope with that. It is in July 2007

as you got married in the 80s you could have 80s theme for your party ie play adam ant, madonna durran durran limahll, culture club to name a few you could even dress up as some of them,we all know the 80s songs and they are good to dance to. what ever you decide hope you have a lovely time and congratulations on your 25th anniversary

Based on the limited information given, I would suggest that you could do something based on the theme of the original wedding. If there was something about the decor of the wedding (such as the flowers, the colour of the bridesmaid's dresses, or even the colour of the tableclothes), you could use that as part of a theme for the party. If there was something about the location of the wedding that you liked (such as the beach or a beautiful mountaintop vista or otherwise notable aspect), you could make that into a theme for the party. As it was twenty five years ago, you could make a theme out of the era in which you were married. (The 1980's is a good theme; early 1980's is especially good since it has that hint of the 1970's plus the Reagan era.)

If none of those things suit you, there are a number of summer themes you can tap into since it is being held in July. The traditional summer barbeque is always a good solid basic concept. In going from there, you could host a Hawaiian style luau (complete with Hawaiian style shirts and all manner of creatures being roastd on a grill and/or fire pit). There are other themes that can be done easily as well (such as a beach and surfing theme); it is a matter of personal taste.

I think the bigger decision is determining to what extent do you want to be involved in party preparation and implimentation. Since it is a special occassion, you could have the event catered (just like you did for your original reception). You could have additional entertainment (such as a DJ or other performers); you could possibly even have someone decorate the your place for you. Or host it as a local location.

    Good luck.

Why not choose an old movie such as Casablanca / The Quite Man

dress as favorite characters .Take all photos in black n white or sepia tone them on your pc .You can get wigs to suit the hair styles

or use Brylcream .Congratulations in advance cheers from Ireland.

Since it's your silver, why not a silver theme. Everyone has to wear silver. An old fashioned 40's or 50's party could also be fun.

As it's your silver wedding, why not have a silver theme? You could encourage guests to wear something silver, or dress up as something that you associate with silver.

That makes it easy for all ages to take part.

    Congratulations by the way!

A Hawaiian Luau party would be just great, especially in July so it will be warm out. You could really have fun with this.

hmm what about a pool party?

Get your hula hawaian outfits on!

    Drink some sangria!

    Cook some kebabs!

    Or... everyone could wear silver:

    You could have silver balloons

    silver table cloths

    silver this silver that

And at the end recieve a silver medal identifying your marriage acheivement

You could display daft pictures of you two together for everyone to laugh at and have a good reminis!
