I was just as suprised as you seem to be. My daughter at age 6 had to start wearing deodorant while my son age 9, didn't need it at all. I was suprised because I don't remember being that young and needing it. Anyway, I talked to the doctor and she says that it can be normal.

Everyone develops differently and she is probably just an early bloomer. I know many girls that need it at an early age. It is good that you aren't avoiding the thought of deoderant because it isn't the age you thought...or some other crazy thing.
I had a 5 year old little girl in my class that smelled on really hot days. She was very clean and I did mention it, very cautiously to her mother. Her mother had noticed too and took her to the pediatrician. All her hormone levels were fine and she just needed it earlier.
I wouldn't worry about it, but mention it to her doctor if it is a concern.

I've known of one young girl who started to get her period when she was 9 years old! I didn't get mine until I was 12, so that seemed so early to me! But I agree that the young girls are maturing faster these days so your daughter's body is probably getting ready to change. If you have some real concerns, I would talk to the pediatrician about it.
Good luck!

Yes it is perfectly normal, the average age for girls to go through puberty is 9-16, and children are going through puberty earlier and earlier every year. Just make sure your daughter understands the changes her body is going through.

It's perfectly normal. I know a lot of girls who started using deodorant at that age (I did. I just didn't want there to be the potential of me smelling bad).

Body odor is not just sweat buy also diet. Drinking more water can help and monitor your child's diet. Too many sweets or fast foods can add to unpleasant odors. Its not that your daughter is sweating, but that you have noticed the scent. Milk can be particularly offensive when passed through sweat.

ya around 9 or 10 is when they start to need it.
just come off with it as a nice way don't just say u need deoderant u stink. ask her if she thinks she has BO. that is what my mom did.
And let her have fun with it let her experement with different deoderents even if u don't like the scent.
P.S. i started at 10 so it is totally normal.

Mine started needing deoderant at around age 4 - I was baffled at that. 9 I don't think it that unusual, as puberty it right around the corner for her. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
