Is a lot of the recent news about global warming political fear-mongering?

I've heard/read both sides of the argument. Yeah, I think we should be more responsible about the environment -- this nation ( & others ) have trashed the earth way too much. Still, every time something happens in the environment, the global warming panic botton gets pushed : it seems some are pushing the issue out of paranoia or politics, or both. I've read the polar bears aren't really doing worse off at all, according to actual facts & figures: same goes on matters like climate, etc., etc. So who's really honest, and who's playing head games, and why? As for me, I want a clean environment, I don't want to get cut by glass at the beach, etc.; but, I hate being cold & wouldn't mind a less frozen north america during the winter months. Think how much farmland would be opened up to feed the hungry masses, if things warmed up more in Canada, Siberia & the northern US. Plus, there would be more hospitable living-areas for the world's population explosion.

Well, Alaska used to have a pretty temperate climate - who's fault was it that the Ice Age came along? The Great Lakes were formed by glaciers - who's fault was it that those glaciers melted? Yes, the left uses it as a major scare tactic. What really cracks me up is the idiots like Laurie David (a Hollyweird freak) who screams at people for driving SUVs, but flies around in a private jet. LOL I also loved that "Vote or DIE" campaign that Mtv promoted before the 2004 election, and the fact that the threat of the draft was being tossed around on the left - how is that *not* fear mongering? And then *who* proposed the draft? A DEMOCRAT!! Liberals would be hilarious if they weren't serious....

Huh? Get back to me when the Polar bears are long gone and Florida is under six feet of water...about 20 years or so the way we are going. The world is hotter now than it has been in 600,000 years when all those bugs that got turned into oil were locked away in the earth with their huge mass of carbon. It took millions of years for the CO2 to be removed from the atmosphere and we have reversed all of that work in a mere 175 years. What do you think is going to happen? It is an established scientific fact that global temperatures are tied to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Even if we didn't emit another pound of CO2 starting right now temperatures will continue to rise for about 50 years.

Yes we are well on the way to extincting ourselves.

If the world warmed up nicely as you suggest, many inhabited areas would be under water. Some inhabited islands are already submerged.

The number of peer-reviewed scientific journals that dispute that humans are the cause of global warming is ZERO. No scientist willing to subject his opinion to his peers is arguing against it at this point.

Those with the most money to lose are oil industry propagandists who want us to keep the blinders on for as long as possible. What money do environmentalists stand to lose if we ignore global warming? None.

Environmental groups spend money and effort speading the word about Global Warming for the good of the planet. Others are preaching only for the good of their pocket books.

As the world warms up and the ice caps melt, there will be much less land to do anything on, because of rising sea levels. I don't think it is being over stated, I think it's very real and speeding up.

It is not a conspiracy; it is reality. Evidence is all around us. Hundreds of millions of tons of toxic gases are released into the atmosphere every day. If nothing is done about, humans will extinct before too long. No other animal or bacteria has done this to themselves before; yet we humans have the nerve to call our selves the most brained species.

No, it's real. We are about to declare polar bears as endangered species.
