do i need to lose weight and how do i do that?

i am 15 years old, about 5'5", about 140 lbs. i'm not the most active person, unless i'm with my friends or in my school gym class. i'm not the most muscular person around, and i really do want to lose the fat i see. does anyone know how i can keep myself active even when i'm not with my friends or alone? there isn't much around, so i'm very bored most of the time, living on a reservation and a bit out of town. i also really want to go swimming this summer - i haven't gone swimming in years! i'm looking for the beach-ready-body.

by the way, this is one of my new year's resolutions.

Weight loss Success comes from FINDING WHAT WORKS then DOING WHAT WORKS.

I can help you with the first but the second part is up to you.

Before you can turn your body into a fat burning machine, here’s what needs to happen: your body fat needs to be released from the fat cells. You can accomplish this step successfully with your nutrition program. Here are some specific tips that you can apply right away to achieve that.

1.Eat 4-6 small, frequent meals and never skip meals.

2.Eat natural foods; avoid processed & refined foods

3.Eat lean proteins with each meal.

4.Eat more complex carbs, fruits & vegetables.

    5.Drink plenty of water

How does your body burn the fat?

When you go on a restrictive diet and then combine it with excessive cardiovascular workouts. You are destined to reach the dreaded weight loss plateau.

Here is the reason behind the plateau; you have burned more muscle tissue than fat with your workouts (and restrictive dieting). This is the worst thing that could happen if you want long term and permanent results.

    Let me explain.

Excessive cardio + restrictive dieting = Less Muscle mass = slower metabolism = Weight loss plateau = Yo-Yo dieting

So how do you break this vicious cycle?

How to burn fat instead muscle mass?

You need to do some MODERATE cardio training. The key word here is moderate.

Combining restrictive dieting with too much cardio can be detrimental and I am sure you have seen those people that are doing cardio on a daily basis and still not getting anywhere. The result is a low metabolism. Low metabolism means, your body fat is not going anywhere, anytime soon. Here is what you need to do:

1.Do some moderate cardio training; the key word here is moderate

2.Never “diet” but consume just a little fewer calories than you do burn on a daily basis (No starvation diets, Please...)

Your muscle tissue is your best friend when it comes to burning body fat. You need to preserve muscle tissues in order to keep losing weight.

Most people go on a starvation diet combined a lot of cardio to lose weight. At first it may seems like this is working because the scale is saying so.

Now think about, scale weight does not tell you if weight loss is from fat, water or muscle tissue. Starvation diets combined with excessive cardio make you lose mostly muscle mass, water weight.

Scale weight by itself is not a good indicator of success.

    The solution

To maintain muscle mass you need to:

Do some resistance training. (This is not optional, it is mandatory)

CHANGE IS HARD, but it's also worth it. Not getting results makes change EXTREMELY HARD.

Get support from friends, family or a coach who knows about body transformation. Losing weight is not as hard at it seems once you know what works for YOU.

You may not be overweight, or need to lose anything, but maybe you just might want to tone your muscles. Getting that kind of tone when i got to college a few years ago and had access to a gym really boosted my self esteem even tho I'm pretty small to begin with.

Try buying a couple hand weights and lifting those 5 days a week, doing a some crunches, see if you can work up to a hundred or a hundred and fifty, and eat healthy. Running is great cardio and burns lots if your joints work. Swimming is one of the most intense sports as far as calorie burning goes....it also takes a lot of practice to be able to swim 2 or 3 thousand yards. Try what you feel comfortable with. Running or swimming.

It'll take a week or two to see the results, but you will feel wonderful.

be very careful about what you eat. what you eat is more important for you to keep in mind than how much. you must already know a lot about that but my answer is study up on the subject and workout at least 45 minutes every day after school. count calories and keep track of your weight and use your tape measure to keep measurements. keep a diary and make at least one entry a day. you will be shocked if you do that for a couple of months and when you look back you learn so much. learning is the key word here. lol

You want to lose weight?> If you feel like you need to or want to than do so. Doesnt matter what people tell you. I hate when people are like your fine you dont need to. THATS bull. If you want to do something than do something. Start off with eating less but make sure you eat breakfast. Most important meal.

Are you into any type of sports? Soccer, basketball, soft ball?? Anything that keeps you active will help. Ask your mom and dad first before going on a diet, they may help by not buying junk food or soda's. They also might get encouraged to change their eatting habits into something healthier, and this may help you reach your new year's resolution.

5'5 and 140 lbs is NOT FAT ...don't let the idiots in the media influence you to think it is... for activities..try brisk walking..if you live out in the country ,you will be amazed at the things you will see......bicyling is good...and swimming is the greatest...don't worry so much about a' beach-ready-body' ...just have a healthy body and a healthy attitude about yourself anf no one else will care about any 'fat'... and by the way, if you are a girl, most MEN prefer a little meat on the bones...something to remember in a few years....and if you are a guy ,we women definitely prefer more than less...think of ways to add a little wieght training like using things around your house and you will tone your muscles and look slimmer if that is your goal..good luck and stay healthy!
