Sounds like your PCM (powertrain control module) is bad. This electronicly controls the timing. Easy to fix but may break the bank! Everything else, plugs, wires, coil will not trigger a misfire code, neither will the knock sensor. You may be able to find someone to bench test the pcm. Hope this helps!!

First of all, dont listen to Jr. Mechanic, plugs, wires, and coil all CAN cause a misfire code! Second, yes the PCM can cause this but very very seldom does a PCM go bad! Is this a 3.0 12 valve or 24 valve. You could try switching wires from a couple different cylinders and see if the misfire changes to a different cylinder. Also there may be a PCM update for this problem. Any questions feel free to ask.

Did you reset the code from before? If not, disconnect the Neg. battery terminal for 5 minutes and put it back on. Then check the car for codes again. (Autozone does it for free)
If you did reset it and its still there:
P0304 is a #4 cylinder misfire. When looking at the motor from the front of the car, its the front left. Change your spark plug wires, they are probably 6 years old and in need of changing. If you are still getting codes, its probably the ignition coil pack.

micheal s I agree... you should have replaced those wires when he replaced the plugs. Who is your mechanic??? jeez thats like first year of trade school man!! hehehe.. anyway I think that if you call your ford dealer.. or maybe even autozone they will tell what cylinder is the one with the problem using that code. You dont say how many miles but it could be time to start putting in better gas.

Does it really have a misfire? If it does it maybe the plug, wire, coil pack assembly, low compression, injector.
If it doesn't have a miss and light comes on the processor needs to be re-calibrated

wires will throw a missfire code SO WILL A FUEL INJECTOR p304 your mechanic should know if its one cylinder or a random misfire code if he dont find a new mechanic drive it to your local autozone they can scan it and even tell you that.its a simple obd2 system
