Help! My 11 month old daughter will not drink her formula anymore?

She is under weight because she was a preemie and a twin her brother takes his bottle just fine all she wants is baby food no bottle. I worry she won't get enough calories she only weighs 11 pounds she is on a high calorie formula and baby food has nowhere near as many calries as formula.

Update:

I do take her to the doctor she is not severly under weight she is only 21 inches long and she weighd 1lbs 9oz at birth so she has gained alot of weight. She eats food good and they don't feel she needs to be tube fed the doctor tells me she needs to get 500-600 calories a day she has an apointment with a nutriitionist jan 15 i just want some sugestions on high calorie baby foods.

Well, for what it's worth, my daughter isn't as old as yours and is just starting solid food, but like any other mom who is concerned about her child's weight - since she is a preemie, she is probably a bit behind others, so even though her age is 11 months, she has some catching up to do. Though wanting to eat food vs. the bottle is right on track because from what I've been told, at one year a baby can eat TABLE food, and should ditch the formula all together. I say focus more on her FOOD intake so that in the next two months the formula and the bottles are gone. If anything, she is self weaning...

That said, give her higher calorie FOOD, like meat selections, grains, and veggies and fruits. Try and give her food from your table. Meat (ground) alone is a perfect higher calorie food to give her, along with avocado. Also, formula has 20 cals/oz, food can and will easily give as many calories as a bottle. You didn't mention whether or not she has the chewing/swallowing skill down pat. If she does, then feed her food and start to ditch the formula. Just make sure the food you give her isn't greasy, processed, and bad calories. Maybe give her more meals of lower calorie foods.

Talk to your doc about maybe putting her on reg milk now. She may prefer that and drink more. As long as she is eating 3 meals a day and 2 bottles she should be fine but if not taking the 2 bottles then consult with doc. Preemies have some special needs sometimes but he/she may decide on milk for your little girl.

I suggest trying another brand of formula. Don't put her on cows milk! Especially since she's a preemie! Cow's milk is hard on an adults stomach so it would be just as hard on an infants stomach.

My daughter had this problem to, she was on Nestle Good Start then one day hated it and refused it. We ended up switching to generic and she loves it. She's currently on Stage 2 formula for older babies. Scientists did a study that says babies who stay on formula longer test with higher brain activity and as 4 year olds test smarter than the other kids. Something to consider! I'm pro formula all the way!

I would ask the doctor...YOu can try mixing some rice cereal with her formula and a touch of her favorite baby food. ..that is sure to pack on the poundsand give it a better flavor. In the mean time I would let her eat the baby food if she wants it, but look for things that are high in fat until the doctor gets back to you.

You should really consult your doctor about this, especially if she is a preemie and underweight as it is.

Someone has suggested adding Karo syrup to the formula, DO NOT do this! You should never give honey or Karo to any child under 1 year. It can be contaminated with botulism...older children can fight this, babies cannot!

If you have to take her off of the baby food completely and make her take only the bottle that way she will get what she needs and grow.

THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS CALL YOUR DOCTOR. IF SHE WANTS BABY FOOD- OK, JUST FEED HER 1-2 TIMES MORE. YOU CAN PUT A LITTLE EXTRA BUTTER IN IT. TRY MIXING IT WITH HER FORMULA TOO, I MEAN THE BABY FOOD. MY SON DIDN'T WANT HIS AROUND THE SAME AGE AND THAT WHAT I DID- PUT SOME OF HIS FORMULA IN THE BABY FOOD, ADDED A LITTLE BUTTER FOR EXTRA CALORIES AND IT HELPED!

I would say go ahead and start her on regular milk since she is almost 12 months, but you should definetly call her pediatrician since she is a preemie. Good luck to you and your baby!

She's almost one. Why can't you give her chocolate milk already.

Those baby jar food have hardly any calories to fatten up any babys. Research purees, and give her pudding. She'll gain some weight soon :)

i've got additionally been attempting to interrupt my son from bottles. he's 15 months, nonetheless. He has been taking plenty drugs, that it is plenty much less complicated to trick him, and combine it in together with his milk, juice or notwithstanding else it needs to be mixed with. as quickly as I positioned it in his sippy cup, he refuses to drink it. i've got faith like it is been a sequence back because of the fact that he's been utilising bottles for his drugs. according to probability try yet another type of sippy cup. My LO likes those with straws.
