Sudden severe pain?

The other day I had sudden sever pain in my upper and lower gums. I have 4 kids and not even the worst contractions felt this bad. I almost went to the ER. I did some research on the internet and I think it may be my wisdom teeth. I am 35 and they never came in. My teeth have shifted a bit. I have a dentist appointment on Thursday. Has anyone else gone through this and what do you suggest for pain. I have tried asprin, ambesol and cloves. (I read oil of cloves deadens pain). Right now it is tolerable but if it starts huring like it did on Monday I will not be able to tolerate it. Thanks for your help.

Update:

I have an appointment on Thursday

I gave information on Wisdom Teeth and Root Canals. Check out the following links which includes the American Dental Association links for both dental problems. Either way, I think you may need a Dentist soon.

Wisdom teeth can be very painful and they do usually expose themselves anywhere from your mid 20's straight through to your mid to late 30's. The good news is that they can be easily removed with little to no consequences amongst your other teeth. On occasion there can be some complications with the teeth being impacted into the jaw bone but even then the dentist's today are well equipped to deal with such problems. My suggestion to you is that once your dentist takes x-rays to confirm that it is in fact your wisdom teeth, I would have them all removed at once. This way you will only need to be put to sleep the one time and it is a very quick and painless operation. The worst part of it is the healing process after and that is more of an annoyance then pain. One key piece of advice if you do have them all removed at once is if you smoke then try not to after your surgery. Smoke causes dry rot and that is more painful then the teeth themselves.

Wow, that just happened to me a couple of weeks ago... It is your wisdom teeth.. Mine were hurting so bad i was wishing that it was contractions.. At least there's an ending with those!! I ended up going to the er.. I couldn't handle it anymore.. They gave me antibiotics and Perkaset... The reason I went to the ER was for the antibiotics.. That's what you need... There's an infection in there somewhere and they'll help.. Or, just call your dentist... Good luck to you!!

Go to the dr and get good drugs. Even make a sick visit with a family physician to get a prescirption for pain.
