I want to hold an open house once I move into my new (first) house.?

My spouse and I have bought a new home. We want to host an open house for friends, work colleagues, and family. What guidelines are there around hosting this type of event. What can we do to make this as stress and hassle free as possible?

Invite everyone, telling them that the open house lasts from, for example, 2 to 7pm. That way they can come and go during a specified period of time. Then go to the grocery store and buy those veggie platters, meat and cheese platters, fruit platters, and some frozen items (like spring rolls, sausage rolls, meatballs for a slow cooker, etc.) to serve a few hot items. Of course, if you can afford it, catering works best but I just bought a new house and couldn't afford that. The grocery store has all kinds of easy appetizers you can purchase and put little work into. Congrats on your new house!!

Send out invites through the mail with ample time for guests to RSVP. IF you are hosting your party during eating times such as on a Sunday calling for 1 PM guests will expect brunch food so if you want to keep it simple call it after lunchtime or earlier than dinner- then you can do snacky type foods- have nice backround music and make sure there is enough seating for all....

Make colorful flyers via computer and mail them or give out or email. Have pictures of things that you like on the flyers with the needed information about the open house. Have too many guesta? stagger the time. Some come at one time some come another time on the same day.

We did the same thing when we bought our house.

We moved into our home in mid May

We had a 4th of July cookout/"Welcome to our new house" party.

Cookouts are so easy. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips. Everyone was happy. And I showed them inside the house as they arrived. It was great. We had almost 100 people and now everyone knows where our new home is.

I printed fliers and just handed them to people (neighbors, work collegues) and just gave word of mouth to close friends/family.

    I hope you have fun!

    Congrats on the new home!

Oh yeah, we waited a couple months b/c we wanted to be settled in before showing the house.

it sounds like you need to go thru your stuff and decide if you can do without it or must have it . If you can do without put in box by rooms such as kitchen and label all sides of the box EXAMPLE KITCHEN CHINA DISHES FROM CHINA CABINET that way when you store the items you can easily look at the box and find what you are looking for . nothing is more frustating that to have to go thru everything to find what you are looking for . also as you store boxes put all of one room together . I have done this and I donated a lot of stuff to a charity. That way it helped others and I did not have to pay for a larger storage unit.

Send out flyers to those that you want to attend, or If you want everyone to attend put one main one up at work where everyone will see it. For family and friends you can call, email or fax. Make sure you have enough food and beverage, as you know that is what they are really coming for.
