Paying for college alone (in the USA)?

I'm trying to help a young coworker. She is 19 and living away from her parents, from whom she is estranged. Currently she has a full time job but would like to go to college. She has NO CREDIT HISTORY (good or bad) She is lost trying to find a way to help pay for a college education. I was educated abroad so have no idea, but she's very bright and would love the chance to get a degree.

(P.S if it helps, she lives in New York State)

I put myself through college, my masters and now law school all by myself. My parents were alive but would not help. Student loans all the way. Living in NY have her fill out a FAFSA and a TAP application, she can get those from the admissions office of the school she wants to attend or www.fafsa.org. or fafsa.gov, Im not sure which one is correct. Cheapest way to go is community college or state college for the first 2yrs or 4yrs if offered.

Tell her to start out at a community or technical college. It's cheaper and she can transfer to a four year college once she gets her associates. She needs to make sure she fills out a FASFA form (federal finacial aid) she just needs her last incom tax form. If she needs more she'll be able to get stanford loan (needs based and through the college)

    Good luck to her
