Why Was West Wing taken off the air?
Was it cancelled? Or did the producers just stop? Did its ratings drop? Were they going to try to put Jimmy Smits in Martin Sheens role and it didn't fly? I never heard WHY??

It was cancelled, but at the same time, I think the producers knew it was the right time to go. It pretty much ran its course, as the Bartlett regime was heading out of office with the new regime on the way in. The cast we knew and loved had moved on, so it seemed fitting that the show did too.

It was done in by the real White House which has the advantage of being both a comedy and a tragedy.
