Hidden Gem's in either the Village or Soho area?

Hi, I'm looking for a small cool place to take my BF to for his birthday. We're coming from out of town, but want to find some great little out of the way place in the Village or Soho areas. His favorites are Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern and Thai food. Thanks!

AOC Bedford on Bedford and Downing in the Village is a great little place. Food and service are excellent. Until 7, there is a three-course prix fixe - the prettiest (and tastiest) octopus dish as an appetizer, scallops are wonderful and they prepare the crepe suzettes tableside (those are my choices - there are others)

In the West Village: Da Andrea on Hudson Street and West 11th Street.

Excellent pastas - I especially love their clam sauce, they make tigelle, an unusual dish that is hot biscuits with prosciutto and melted cheese - very filling - split an order. Da Andrea can get very crowded on weekends.

Gene's on 11th Street just off Sixth Avenue - Italian restaurant that's been there a long time. Food's very good and they have a three course prix fixe for about $30 - excellent mussels and fried calamari. Desserts are so good here. Tremendous value

Po, 31 Cornelia Street 212-645-2189. One of Mario Battali's old places. One of the best, and least expensive tasting menus in town. Amazing food, cozy, though it can seem a little cramped. Call ahead and ask for the table in the window. Servers are smart, quick and not bad to look at.

I'd look into Marinella's on Carmine Street. Excellent Italian food, and great wine!
