Good quote that could be used as a yearbook theme?

I am going to be the yearbook editor at my school next year and am already looking for themes for our 2008 book. I was thinking of a using a cool quote and then maybe break it down into parts for different sections of the book... Something that has to do with change or growing up or high school... a good life lesson.... anything would be appreciated!!

    Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

    -Marianne Williamson

    “You will look back on the times you laughed and you will cry. You will look back on the times you cried, and you will laugh. You will always remember close friends, and you will always keep memories of them in your heart.

    “As I look back on all that's happened..growing up, growing together, changing you, changing me -- there were times when we dreamed together, when we laughed and cried together. As I look back on those days, I realize how much I truly miss you and how much I truly love you. The past may be gone forever..and whatever the future holds, our todays make the memories of tomorrow. So, my lifetime friend, it is with all my heart that I send you my love, hoping that you'll always carry my smile with you, for all we have meant to each other and for whatever the future may hold.”

    The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

    hmm.

    i'm in high school...

    but some random quotes that are meaningful...

    THIS ONE IS GOOD.

    "Sow an act...reap a habit; Sow a habit...reap a character; Sow a character...reap a destiny." --

    George Dana Boardman

    this one is good for the 4 sections....

    "Desire, ask, believe, receive."

    Stella Terrill Mann

    Confucius: "Virtue is never left to stand alone. He who has it will have neighbors."

    Anne Frank: "We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same"

    "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

    Helen Keller

    "You got to be careful if you don’t know where you’re going, because you might not get there."

    - Yogi Berra (1925-)

    "Happiness is good health and a bad memory."

    - Ingrid Bergman (1917-1982)

    "The concept is interesting and well-formed, but in order to earn better than a ‘C’, the idea must be feasible."

    - A Yale University management professor, in response to student Fred Smith’s paper proposing reliable overnight delivery service (Smith went on to found Federal Express)

    "Ideas are like stars; you will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you will reach your destiny."

    - Carl Schurz (1829-1906)

    "Do, or do not. There is no ‘try’."

    - Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

    "You laugh at me because I am different, but I laugh at you because you are all the same."

    - Unknown

    "In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did they produce? The cuckoo clock."

    - Orson Welles (1915-1985)

    (...ok that one is wierd, but it made me laugh :)

    I have two ideas for you. One is a short quote that I particularly like. It is one of Peter Jennings' quotes:

    "Seems like yesterday, seems like forever, all at the same time."

    For a quote that you could break into sections and use in different parts of the yearbook, consider Desiderata, a timeless classic.

    Desiderata

    Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

    and remember what peace there may be in silence.

    As far as possible without surrender

    be on good terms with all persons.

    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

    and listen to others,

    even the dull and the ignorant;

    they too have their story.

    Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

    they are vexations to the spirit.

    If you compare yourself with others,

    you may become vain and bitter;

    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

    Exercise caution in your business affairs;

    for the world is full of trickery.

    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

    many persons strive for high ideals;

    and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.

    Especially, do not feign affection.

    Neither be cynical about love;

    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

    it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years,

    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

    Beyond a wholesome discipline,

    be gentle with yourself.

    You are a child of the universe,

    no less than the trees and the stars;

    you have a right to be here.

    And whether or not it is clear to you,

    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,

    whatever you conceive Him to be,

    and whatever your labors and aspirations,

    in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

    it is still a beautiful world.

    Be cheerful.

    Strive to be happy.

    Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.

    Best of luck with it.
