I get some one who sends me mega IM's ...it destroys my chat session. what can I do?

When in chat someone randomly selects my computer and sends me a barage of IM's...I have virus scan...how can I stop them from doing this to me? It comes up as many IM names so it doesn't do any good to try and record the name.

    Go into preferences in messenger,click ignore list,click on ignore anyone not on my messenger list.Then if you get them you'll know he's on your list.
