Should politicians be allowed to cross the floor?

Sure they feel it is right, but they are there to represent the public, not do what they want. Should they be allowed to switch parties for a better post, or because they do not agree with their leader, or any other reason.

Update:

Or should they have to hold a bi-election to see if the public agrees with their cross.

They should not be allowed to cross the floor because the person is there because he/she was voted in by his constituents and they put him/her there to represent them.If they no longer want to be there and no longer wishes to represent the people who put them there -they must resign and a vote must take place in the empty riding,so the constituents can be represented by someone of their choosing as it is supposed to be.Politicians should be held accountable to the people who put them there and not do as they please.

Everyone has the right to change their mind. Even politicians.

And by doing that they know that they run the risk of not being reelected, so they must be pretty convicted to do so.
