You would be VERY lucky to get a swap in Kensington! Kensington has the least council homes in London. Lots of people want to move out, particularly older Londoners. There's a website called HOMESWAP, you can enter your details, it's basically a site for all council and housing association tenants in the UK to advertise their swap requirements. Central London is very sought after and the rents match the demand. However, if you've got a property with a garden, perhaps near the sea in a des res, you may stand a better chance. Good luck!

I'd try outside central London (try Kingston Upon Thames it has practically everything you are asking for, Park, shopping areas... and it has transport links to central London) because council housing in central London is hard to come by nowadays.
Kensington... council houses... I don't think there is any is there??

No idea but I don't think you will be able to get council housing in kensington, i guess you could try east or south london instead. Or without sounding too nasty get a decent job and maybe then you could afford to live in a nice area of london.

Hey darlin seriously doubt you'd get a council exchange to an area like Kensington. My sisters just moved there and paid £200k for a 1bed flat.

London is very expensive. If you want to live in a city, Manchester or Birmingham have got some nice areas.

You can find council websites via http://www.direct.gov.uk/ and get the housing department from there.
Camden has council housing, but of course there are long waiting lists.

the only place you'll get will be a tenement.
