I am traveling to Moscow and St. Petersburg in May. What type of clothing should I take? How cold/warm will it be while I am there? I should be there almost the whole month. Thanks bunches!!

Update:

I live in Texas in America.

I was there in July a few years ago. Temperature-wise, it was usually around 80. In May, it will probably be a good bit cooler, particularly in St. Petersburg, since it is so much farther north. I'd take plenty of pants. I'd plan for all types of weather. A few sweaters, a few tee-shirts, jacket and a coat.

While you are in St. Petersburg, be sure to visit the Hermitage Museum and the Summer Place. They are so beautiful. I also enjoyed a boat ride on the river, which let me see a lot of the city. My sister enjoyed the ballet while I took my boat ride. I think that St. Petersburg is the most beautiful city in the world, and a visit to Russia gave me a real love for the "Mother Country", even though I'm not of Russian heritage. Have a wonderful trip and safe travels!

St.Petersburg (know simply as Peter to the locals) can be surprising warmer and more humid then Moscow at any time of year. Normally all winter snow melts in most of Russia in mid-April. Summer does not really begin until 1 July, so in May it is true spring weather - changeable. Sunshine - warm for a few hours in midday and cool at othertimes, but with a freshness inthe air. A late snow shower is not unusual, so be prepared for a variety of temperatures, defineately you do need a good jumper and a medium warm jacket. Descent and inexpensive umbrellas can be bought in the shop in the subway of the metro stations. IThere will be some rain showers of course. Basically it feels like Mad March and April showers of European countries . But now withthe global warming, who knw - anything is possible. You migh still need some waterproof shoes - however you will see many fashionable young Russian ladies wearing mini-skirts and high-heeled boots.

In May, Moscow should be around15 degrees C, possibly a bit higher. Petersburg maybe around 20 degrees. You might get quite a bit of rain. Take an umbrella but other than that, you shouldn't need any special clothes.

Unfortunately, May in Russia can be very chilly. So make sure you are well dresses. It may be somewhere in 40s. By the way, I am sure that you will have a great time!! I always enjoyed going to Russia at this kind of season. Don't get me wrong but you will kind of get this " Russian" feeling. lol

Weather in Moscow and St.Pete can be very unpredictable. I would check the weather on www.weather.com right before the trip. But still, be prepared to for rain or shine.
