What format do movies have to be in to be downloaded onto a fifth-generation (newest) iPod?

My friend got an iPod for Christmas and we're both clueless about it!

    ah i had this EXACT SAME problem.

    i got my 30 gb ipod for christmas and wanted to put videos on it..yaddayaddayadddaaa.

    if you're downloading, it has to be in mp4 format.

    make sure it's not avi or mpg because it'll just take a long time to download and then it won't even work on itunes.

    Yeah you need to conver your avi file into MP4. If you don't have a converter here a web site that convert the files for you. Then you need to download them back to your computer with the right format.
