I've been playing this game since i was 21 (well maybe even a year before that). Anyhow, i now live in L.V., and i can tell you some things to look for, avoid, etc, etc.

Bets to stay AWAY from are:

--> the "Field" - this is a bad bet

-->the "big 6" or "big 8" - these are bad bets (if you want to wager on either the 6 or the 8 - do a 'PLACE' bet.

-->everything int he middle of the table - again bad bets (these are often marked in yellow

-->speaking of bad bets (in craps) "Any 7" has the WORST odds of any table-game wager in the ENTIRE casino

What 'should' you bet on. I would have to say (for starters) would be the PASS LINE BET. Assuming you're bringing a 'fair' sized bankroll....

    (( by this, i'm talking about 20 or 30 times the table minimum .......... i.e. a $5 minimum table, make at least a $100 buy in ))

Secondly, you'll want to 'take the odds'. I'll explain this in a minute. I'm not sure if you're a novice or somewhat skilled player.

On the come-out roll (first roll of the dice)..

    2-3-12 - you lose

    7-11 - you win

4,5,6,8,9,or 10 become the 'point' .. and so that 'point' needs to be rolled AGAIN for you to win (before a 7 appears).

This is the case where you will take 'odds'. The amount of $ you bet on the pass line will ALWAYS pay even money. The ODDS BET is where you make add'l $$ & also reduce the house (casino) edge.

Example $5 on the PASS LINE........."10" is rolled........ you now have the option of making an add'l wager (you will just set chips behind your orig. pass line bet) and, if the "10" is rolled again, you will be payed 2 to 1.

The ODDS BET pays the actual true odds of this occuring:

There are 6 ways to roll a '7'

There are 3 ways to roll a '10'

So, (math time!), 6/3 reduces to "2 to 1".. and you're payed EVEN MONEY (as i stated on your orig. passline bet), but payed 2 to 1 on the ODDS bet.

From casino to casino, most everything on the craps table pays the same. The thing YOU want to look for is the amount of 'ODDS' you are allowed to play.

If you see a banner in front of a hotel that says "3x odds on craps"... it means you can make an add'l wager to your PASSLINE BET that is up to 3 times the amount you orig. wagered on the passline.

If you are coming to L.V. -

    Casino Royale 100x odds

    Main St 20x odds

But, there are many 'mega' casinos, such as on the strip that will allow you to make only a 2x wager on 'ODDS'.

Really, what i'm talking about here is reducing the house edge to less than 1%, in some cases less than 1/2 of a %.

Othrewise, your best bet (as you asked) is the PASS LINE BET. Or a COME BET. The COME BET is just the same as a passline bet, except it's a 'new cycle' as a point is established (or 2,3,7,11,12 for instant win/loss) after the original 'come out' roll.

If you want to do PLACE BETS. This is where you choose the specific # you want to play.....

6 or 8 are good #'s to play (they pay 7 to 6)

5 or 9 are fair #'s to play

4 or 10 are fair #'s to play (i would suggest PURCHASING the #, the dealer will explain this to you while you are there).

Sorry for all of my typing.

Craps gives you one of the best shots at making good on your money, provided you know which bets are the ones worth making and which ones to reconsider.

Craps is best played with patience. The Pass Line bet and the Place bet for 6 or 8 will stand you in good stead over the long haul. Because of the low house advantage, these are two of the best bets you're likely to make.

Pass Line Bets: you win if the shooter rolls a 7 or an 11 on the first roll, or if the shooter establishes a point by rolling 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 and then rolls that same number again before rolling a 7.

Place bet on 6 or 8: you win if either a 6 or an 8 (depending on what number you're betting on) is rolled before a 7.

    Betting Any 7

You'll often find craps players betting on 'Any 7'. The odds of Any 7 bets pay out at 4 to 1. The chances of you actually landing that bet are 5 to 1. Do the math and you'll see that it's just not worth it.

    Betting The Field

As tempting as it is to bet the field, because it gives you lots of numbers to win and the payouts can be fairly attractive, there are a few cautions. For starters, you lose money much faster on this bet, and for every 16 winning bets there will be 20 losing results. Numbers 6,7 and 8 come up most often and they won't win you any money on this bet. Nor do 5 and 9 (the fourth most frequent results).

Betting On The Centre - Table Propositions

They can carry a casino advantage as high as 16%.

    Big 6 And Big 8

These bets pay only even money, despite the fact that they work much the same way as Place Win bets on 6 and 8. Go for the Place Bets instead - they pay 7/6 odds. To put it another way: the house edge on Place Bets for 6 and 8 is only 1.52%, while on Big 6 and Big 8 it's 9.1%.

    Hardways

Beware the Hardways bet - they don't call it hard for nothing. A Hardways bet on 4 or 10 has odds of 7 to 1 and a house edge of 11.11%. Hardways bets on 6 or 8 are 9 to 1 with a house edge of 9.09%. There are easier bets to make.

as you know the casino has an advantage on every bet, but there are bets in craps that are better than others.

The best bet is the pass line bet with Max odds behind.

You may also like to place the 6 and 8 (although the odds on these bets when you win don't pay as much as a come bet with odds)

Come bets are just like Pass Line bets and are also good bets

Stay away from Field bets, the Middle bets (Hardways, World, etc) unless you just want to have some fun which most people do.

You can also play Don't Pass and Don't Come although you'll play more of a waiting game to win, and most people at the table won't like you.

    good luck.
