Pagoda paintings? Oriental suggestions for couch?
I have a old couch and I stapled a light creme colored painters cloth over the couch so it fits like a cover. I would like to paint somthing simple but with a oriental theme onto the back couch cushions.
Anyone know any websites where I could find collections of paintings of things like a pagoda or other oriental styled architecture? Or oriental paintings in general?
Or have any simple suggestions of things with a oriental theme to paint on my couch?

Hi:
You might try looking at some reference books at a local library or bookstore. In the crafts section, Dover makes books with clip art and similar types of topical images, and you might find one that will help you. There are some that come with CDs called 'Oriental Designs, 'Japanese Designs', 'Chinese Designs', 'Traditional Chinese Motifs', 'Southeast Asian Designs'. Check these out on Amazon, too, because there you might be able to get 2 or more for a discount deal and see what related items other people also got. It will at least maybe give you an idea about what to look for, and I have seen a lot of these types of books available at my local public library.
For just a simple image, you might look at Sumi-E ink drawings of subjects like bamboo - I think those are particular interesting, and ginko leaves, dragonflies are oriental/craftsman style, too. Since there are several different Oriental types, you might want to choose consistent images if you have other pieces with similar imagery in your decor - at least if it were me, I would probably try do that, but it probably doesn't really matter one way or another.
If you find an image that you might like to repeat with a stamp or stencil type device, you might also want to check out a sort of cool little silk-screening thing called PhotoEZ Silkscreen. You can get this stuff, and pretty easily make a reuseable fine silkscreen image. The source website also shows how to use this product, and also some ready made images you might see and like to use, along with samples of finished projects so you can see what can be accomplished with this stuff. It's really neat.
Hope this gives you some ideas and inspiration! Good luck and have fun making your project!
