Here's a good basic beer batter for shrimp.
1 egg, beaten
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 TBS. Old Bay seasoning -- you can use cayenne instead
Mix the dry ingredients and add them to the beaten egg. Add the beer gradually while mixing; you want a drippy batter that will coat the shrimp well. Dip the shrimp and fry.
Any beer will work, but dark beers or ale give the batter more flavor. This batter also works well for tempura veggies too.

Dry Mix:.
In large zipper type plastic bag combine flour, baking powder and creole seasoning.
Dip peeled shrimp in egg mixture.

Repeat each step.
Heat oil to 360 degrees.
