The Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., often called Martin Luther King Day, is a United States holiday marking the birthdate of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15. It is the only United States federal holiday commemorating an African American and one of only four to commemorate an individual person.

Martin Luther King died: April 4th, 1968.

i believe that his legal bitrhday is January 21st. The reason why it fall on different days each year is because in 1984 Pres. Ronald Regan signed a bill in Nov. 1984 designating the third Monday in January each year as a federal holiday. He became the first black and third America after George Washington and Lincoln to be honored by a federal Holiday. Coretta is not living.
