Update:

The one who got the death penality dressed like a goth and use to listen to heavy metal music so the courts used this as defence on him

You're describing the West Memphis Three. Damien Echols is the one on death row. He has not been executed yet. His lawyers are trying to get new evidence into the courts to exonerate him. There is a large movement that is trying to free the young men. There is a book about the case called Devil's Knot by Mara Leveritt.

The father you describe, John Mark Byers, should have been a suspect, but he had close ties to the West Memphis police.

It's the West Memphis 3 case. Yes, the crimes were indeed unfortunate however many say there were problems with the investigation including: collection and preservation of evidence, the interrogations, the trial with key witnesses later recanting their testimonies, forensics evidence and actual facts contradicting parts of one boys "confession". Some of the evidence actually points away from these boys having committed the crimes. Another documentary about the case "Paradise 3" is in production and should make things clearer. All the boys are appealing the verdicts.
