Is it cheaper to use a space heater or turn up the heat?
We're moving into a new place and we have to pay our own heat and lights. Is using a space heater cheaper? Also I don't know what kind of furnace it has yet so if you know a gas is cheaper but an electric isn't, please say so. Thanks.

We'd need to know a little more about the situation to be able to tell you for sure. We'd need to know cost of gas and electricity in your area and how well insulated your new place is and the age of the furnace. Where I live oil heat would usually be cheaper then electricity - no gas heat here. Where my sister lives, gas is cheaper than electricity.
Generally, if you have to heat the whole house or apartment when you turn up the heat, then a space heater to heat just one room might be cheaper. But again it depends upon the type and size and efficiency of the space heater.
If you are worried about the heating, make sure you check for drafts. Some places you might lose heat are around windows and doors and around light switches and plug ins. You can buy little specially made pieces of insulation for the switch plates and plug ins if you feel draft there. Seal around windows if you can, and use heavier curtains, keeping them closed at night and open during times when the sun shines in. You might want to check out the plastic kits for the inside of windows, or if you are handy, make your own. Put one of those draft stoppers (the long tube like things - you can make them yourself from a rolled towel in a pinch) along doors with a draft.
I hope this helps and that the heating is good and efficient in your new place.

Gabriel- careful about calling human beings loopy. i imagine what became meant by getting less warm in the walls they were attempting to assert there is warmth loss in the ducts. I truthfully saved money with holding the nice and cozy temperature on all day yet decreased it really than on and rancid in very chilly climate using baseboard warmth. Coming homestead to a chilly house i found that the temperatures on the ceiling might want to be 100 and ten tiers after a pair hours even as i became nonetheless chilly at sixty 5 tiers sitting in a chair. yet baseboard had no followers so some table excellent followers cured that and a more reasonable answer than leaving the nice and cozy temperature on. And that became in reality a 9 foot ceiling. The thirteen foot severe vents are a difficulty for heat, likely a commerce off for cooling, yet when the go back air vent is at floor aspect it truly is a lot less of a difficulty because you would possibly want to be getting some air blend then, pulling the nice and cozy temperature right down to the position you're. (which obviously is harder to tug warmth down). sure, the gap heaters will save warmth yet presented that you're literally not heating different rooms or factors. an section heater that has a fan and sits on the floor might want to be blending the nice and cozy temperature air with the coldest air at floor aspect and can want to grant slightly bit convenience lowering that results of the nice and cozy temperature increasing. the genuine difficulty is the 18 foot ceilings, it truly is per chance really warmth up there. A ceiling fan is optimal for assisting with that. fantastic to have severe ceilings yet now anybody is getting comfortable to how severe priced they quite are. sturdy success
