Aerator on a sink for a dishwasher?

Air gaps are required by most codes for dishwashers. They are needed to prevent any possible cross-connection between your fresh water system and your sewage system. Without an air gap, there is always a chance (however slim) of siphoning contaminants from your sewage system into your drinking water system.

Sometimes, rather than having an air gap sitting on top of the kitchen sink, a plumber can rig it up underneath so that its hooked in to the garabge disposal. Its not "to code" necessarily, but it will work for the same purpose as a sink mounted air gap..

An aerator is thdevice on the tip of your faucet thet mixes air with your water before it comes out of the faucet. An aerator for a sink to go to the dishwasher would be used for a portable dishwasher that hooks to the sink and you use it then diconnect it and roll the dishwasher away until next time.

It is usually called a quick connect adapter.

Hi,When we bought a new dishwasher,They told us they had to put a overflow on our sink.I politely show them the front door.I'm not having that thing on my sink! Every time I saw someone Else's sink, that always looked dirty to me.No Thanks!I installed the washer myself with out a overflow,and it work's fine.Never had a problem with dirty water in the clean water.But I guess that's code.(not in my house!)By the way, It's to stop the dirty dishwasher water from backflowing into clean drinking water.If you drink tap water,which we use to cook with.
