Help about formatting DVD+RW discs..?
I have a DVD-RAM Drive (D:)
and I have a DVD+RW disc which has some recorded avi file videos in it. Now, I need to format the disc.
Here's the thing, I try to record or put a file into the DVD+RW disc but it won't let me. It says "Cannot copy on this disc. Files on this disc are read only. You cannot put or move over files to this cd-rom drive."
What happened? Now I want to format the disc. You can right? because it's dvd+rw. What am I supposed to do?
How do you put or record files in a DVD+RW? the one i have is not mine. my friend just gave it to me because i want to watch the videos in it.
I know in dvd+rw you can put or record as many times as you want. but why can't i?
and also, i have a TOSHIBA Disc Writer Format Utility.. you know, to format the disc.. but when i click format the disc it says " the disc is not blank, formatting it will erase the files on the disc" so i said yes. but it wont start formatting.
yes, my DVD RAM Drive can read and write DVD-RW, DVD+RW, CD-RW, CD+RW, CD-R and CD+R.

Three replies but none really relevant to the original post! The OP's problem was specifically with DVD+RW media not DVD+/-R or DVD-RAM discs. Formatting problems can often be caused by a dirty head (laser lens) and using a cleaning disc can resolve the issue. It should always be possible to reformat a disc formatted in another device but some domestic recorders, such as Sony, can be stubborn about this. I have also read that Sony favour Verbatim media although I have not direct experience of this. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer but I'm still looking around for solutions!

Check the front of the drive can you see it saying 'DVD-RW'..
I don't think that DVD-RAM drives read DVD+RW...
You could try a DVD-RW as they are more compatable than the +RW
Go to 'My Computer >> Right Click on the DVD-RAM Drive >> see if there is a option to format disk there
If not Download Nero 7.....and than install it...and from the Main menu choose the Recorder Option and select your DVD-RAM drive....It will tell you what 'Discs Types' your Drive will read/write

If you use a nero application you can do a quick format which eliminates the content. I use this all the time on CD-RW's aswell as DVD+RW's.
I hope this helps, and good luck.

You need to open up your writing software and find the option to erase the disc. In Nero, you go to "Recorder->erase Rewritable disc". Other software will be similar. You can then use it to write to again.
