African Violet?

I have 2 beautiful african violets, have had them for 5 years and yes I always have taken off the dead flowers and saggy leaves, just be careful and try not to disturb the good leaves on the plant. If you have your plant in an african violet container it will last a very long time......good luck.....tender luvin care

A really good African Violet planter is one that is made in 2 pieces. The inside piece that you plant you violet in has no holes and is made of unglazed bisque. It sets down into the second pot so that just the lip is showing. The second pot is entirely glazed and should have a couple of holes at the top to add water. You can keep this dish full of water. Only a bit of water will seep through the unglazed dish keeping the violet watered but not over watered.

Once every couple of months, its good to give your violet a weak steeped tea that has been cooled to room temperature. My violets were not doing very good and had not bloomed in over a year in spite of my having been using proper African violet food that I got from the local store. Then a young gentleman working at the nursery told me to try the tea. The results were amazing!

An African Violet Pot is one where you pour the water from the bottom of the pot and water is then distributed as needed (sort of a wicking process)

You can pinch them, or trim them. I have had my plant for 13 years. Water it once a week.

Edit: I think you mean container. It's made specifically for African Violets. It is usually made of ceramic or porcelain, though some come in plastic now. They have a saucer attached. African Violets like to be root bound, so if you want to transplant, get a container that is only slightly bigger than the one you have now. After you transplant, it will take a few months for the plant to start growing again. Also, don't water the leaves or they will spot and don't let the roots soak in water.

It is good to remove the bad stuff, then the energy goes into the healthy parts of the plant. Whenever the flowers finish it is goo to remove them either by pinching or snipping.
