My Sony DVD player will not read a disc. It makes some noise then says "No Disc". How do I fix it?

I can not even use a cleaning disc, because it won't read that, either. I usually turn it off with the remote, putting it on stand by. A few weeks ago, I turned it all the way off and left it for about 2 weeks. Since then, it says "No Disc" even though there is one in it! How can I fix this? I have turned it off for a day, put it on stand by for a day, unplugged it, etc... Nothing is working!!!

Update:

There was not a disc in it when I shut it off. I can put discs in and take them out, and have tried several. I have also tried hitting it (LOL) and blowing dust out of it, manually. I guess I will try the compressed air next....

Can you eject it? Have you tried another disc? Is it in a dusty area? You can try blowing some air from a compressed can into the area where the disc would be in the machine. Don't get crazy with it, and don't shake or invert the can. Good luck.

I have had this happen to 2 DVD recorders and 3 DVD players. The $12 players lasted as long as the expensive ones, so the best bet is just buy the cheaper ones and throw them away when they quit reading the discs. I thought that DVDs were the answer to tape, but my video tape players are still working and I have pre-recorded audio tapes that still played after 50 years, but the belts on the tape players went bad and you can't find anyone or place to repair them.

Are the DVD's you're trying recorded on DVD-R or R/W? If just regular rentals, or bought, then definitely take it back. Not worth fixing, as it would be too expensive. sometimes you need a special DVD player that will play Divix files, etc. if you recorded the movie yourself. good luck!

whut he said, but furthermoore, if yuo have the time on your hand you should call sony, to get info about their product, normally located on the back of the DVD player, also seriously, if it says that I usually just tap the DVD player just a little, not hard and luck may make it work, but the best choice is to call sony, or to bring it to a electronic store, and get info about how you could go about to fix that type of problem
