I am mid twenties (yuck, I feel old), live in North Carolina and teach 5th grade. I also work part-time at a local car dealership. I moved from MI to NC to teach. Since I live down here and all of my friends and family are still in MI, I am on the computer quite a bit. I can be fount of useless information! Especially when it comes to my passions: NASCAR and Detroit Tigers baseball! On the baseball side, I am a huge Curtis Granderson fan! And, I was at the no hitter that Justin Verlander threw! As for NASCAR, Kasey Kahne is my guy! Clint Bowyer is a close second. Also ranking: AJ Allmendinger, Casey Mears, Elliott Sadler, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jamie McMurray, Jeff Burton, Brian Vickers, and Bobby Labonte. I pick a rookie every year. My rookie for this year is: Scott Speed (I am not a "Sliced Bread" fan so Scott gets it by default).

  • Should I get the 16gb or 32gb iPhone?

I have zero intention of ever putting music on it (I have an mp3 player that I love). I have an iPad through my job with quite a few apps on it. I don't want to regret my decision later on.

  • Computer advice- did I fix it? or not? HELP!?

I had something corrupt my computer. I got all kinds of errors and nothing really worked. A scan kept coming up with the trojan virus. It wouldn't let me do anything to fix it. So, I ran a system restore on my computer. Everything is now working perfect. Is it OK now? Or should I purchase some sort of Spyware program?

  • Painting advice please!?

I am closing on my first home on Friday and it needs paint because it is a short sale situation and it is pretty dirty. Washing will not do!

But, I have a few questions- do all the walls need primed? Most are a neutral cream color- very light- and have flat paint.

How much paint do I buy? If the walls are primed, is 1 gallon enough for a 10x11 room with 8 foot ceilings??

  • Wood Laminate Flooring from IKEA?

I was wondering if anyone has wood laminate flooring from IKEA?

Does it hold up well or is it a waste of money? I am purchasing a house and all of the flooring has to be replaced. I like the look of wood for the kitchen, but I am having to purchase flooring for 1450 SF on a tight budget and can't really afford it. This would be the only way. So, I was hoping someone could give me an opinion?

I just really don't want to have to use vinyl!

  • Cost of roof stain removal?

I can not find ballpark prices for roof stain removal anywhere.

How much can I expect to spend on this? Hundreds? Thousands (hope not)?

I have submitted an offer on a home and I hate the roof stains (plus they damage the roof- or so I have read). One story, approximately 1400 SF.

    TIA

  • Real Estate Auctions?

What would be the benefit of auctioning your home?

There is a home in my area being auctioned (they say it is not a distress sale). I do not understand why they would do this route? Any insight? The opening bid is 100K and tax value is 175K. I live in an area where the market is still pretty healthy (greater Charlotte NC area). I am curious as to why people do this!

Also, any forsight on how high auctions go? Do they usually sell for about the properties value, less or more? It is a beautiful home but I can only afford about 130K (and I am sure it will sell for more, but I can dream, right?)

  • Mortgage Rates?

Which mortgage companies have the best rates right now? I am trying to get preapproved for a mortgage and buy my first home. I have been preapproved through BB&T but the rate they quoted me was 6.25%. I felt this is high. I have good credit (score in the mid-to-high 700s) and no credit card debt.

Are there any other lenders I should check with?

  • Home resale?

I am going to buy my first home soon (hopefully). I have an appointment to view a home tomorrow. I love it from the outside and it is in a VERY nice neighborhood. It is one of the smallest in the sub which is why I can afford it (the next cheapest home for sale is over 50K more- most are in the $230K range). I should mention that I am in the Charlotte NC metro region, where homes are typically appreciating and selling.

However, I have some concerns. The home is listed for just under 140K and through a company that sells MLSs-no realtor. I have not gotten a realtor yet- I was going to call Monday. However, I can save several thousand if I buy with out a realtor. My concern is that the home is about 1000sf and 3 bedrooms. I will be living alone, but I think a 1000sf 3brdm is cramped looking. I am worried about the ability to resell it. Is reselling homes this small a difficult thing? Or am I worried about nothing?

  • Lost baggage, how long did it take to get it back?

I was hoping some people can give my some insight on lost baggage. How many days did it take them to find it and get it to you? I flew into Michigan from Charlotte last night and only one of my bags made it. Naturally, it was the bag with my pillow (can't sleep with out it!) and the birthday presents for my neice and nephew. So, now I am in snowy, cold Michigan with a short sleeved shirt, jeans and sandals!! No coat, no clothes, nothing! I fly many times a year and never had this problem. I usually fly AirTran and this time I flew Continental for the very first time.

So, how long did it take you to get your bag(s) back? Just curious of other people's experience.

And, how difficult was it to get reimbursed for your belongings if they never found it?

  • Credit Advice please!?

I am hopefully am going to buy a townhouse later this year. I just paid off my credit cards with my income tax return. My current credit score is a 719 and I know I need to try to get it above a 740. What is the best way to do this?

    Do I:

    A. Leave all 4 credit card accounts open with a 0 balance? They each run from about $2500-5000 credit limits.

    B. Close all of my credit card accounts?

    C. Close some of my credit card accounts?

And, if I leave them open, which will (if any) help raise my credit score faster:

    Leave the balance at 0

    OR

Charge small amounts every month but pay them off?

    Thank you for any advice!

  • Why do people do this?

Why do people answer questions when they have no clue what the answer is? I find it very annoying to read through a ton of "I don't knows" just because people wanted two points.

Personally, as common courtesy, I will not answer a question if I do not know the answer. Nor will I answer a question when the correct answer has already been posted a ton of times. Only if I can actually ADD to it!

    Sorry for the rant :)

  • Possibly moving to Florida. What areas are good and which are bad??

Due to the awful economy where I live, I am going to have to move out of state if I ever want to use my degree (Elementary Ed). Florida needs teachers very badly, and it is a quick and cheap plane ride home from Orlando or Tampa. I have been looking for jobs with-in an hour of either city. Volusia County needs 700-800 teachers for the fall and Polk County needs about 500. Those are just examples, I have looked at other areas as well. So, where are some good, safe areas to live? I am in my early-to-mid twenties and will be living alone. I want to make sure that I only apply to safe areas! Any help would greatly be appreciated!

  • My Sony DVD player will not read a disc. It makes some noise then says "No Disc". How do I fix it?

I can not even use a cleaning disc, because it won't read that, either. I usually turn it off with the remote, putting it on stand by. A few weeks ago, I turned it all the way off and left it for about 2 weeks. Since then, it says "No Disc" even though there is one in it! How can I fix this? I have turned it off for a day, put it on stand by for a day, unplugged it, etc... Nothing is working!!!
