Why do people do this?
Why do people answer questions when they have no clue what the answer is? I find it very annoying to read through a ton of "I don't knows" just because people wanted two points.
Personally, as common courtesy, I will not answer a question if I do not know the answer. Nor will I answer a question when the correct answer has already been posted a ton of times. Only if I can actually ADD to it!
Sorry for the rant :)
This is in NASCAR because someone has been doing this a lot in NASCAR. I know I answered my own question. That is because this was more of a statement than a question. Just trying to give a not-so-subtle hint.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM A GORDON FAN A STUPID ANSWER
AND YES I SAW THAT OTHER QUESTION

Well like others have said, sometimes I just answer a question without reading through the answers. I try not to do that but sometimes I just get too excited about the question.
As for answering the "I don't know" I'll admit I've done that once or twice, but only because it's some basher wasting our time with an idiotic question.
I did answer "I don't know" once because someone asked a question and after like an hour no one had replied, so I just wanted that person to know they weren't being ignored or dissed, so it was kind of like a friendly gesture.
For the most part I agree with your way of thinking and I try my best to be as courteous as I can be. And I honestly think the majority of the NASCAR answerers are friendly and fun, there's a few bad apples and we all know who they are, so try not to let them spoil the whole bunch. If it was someone who you know is normally helpful and polite, (And doesn't do this on a regular basis)forgive them this one time and hope they got your "subtle hint" ; P

I agree with you. Two points doesnt make a whole lot of difference and I know it moves you up some levels and you get more answers and quesions and such but yadda yadda yadda. I do the same thing as you, if the answer has been posted 100 times I wont answer, and if I dont know it I usually ownt answer but I might post and suggest where the person could find out the answer. I think its just people doing it to get on other people's nerves and the ones that actually have input and something to add to an answer or tell their opinion are the people who make this bored worth coming too... People come here looking for answers and get them because some people care.

Why? You answered the question yourself. People want the points. As soon as you start assigning points to the system, it stops being helpful and starts being a competition.
I asked a few questions, looking for answers. Most answers were flames, people laughing, or saying something that has nothing to do with what I was talking about. A few actually took the time to answer, which was nice.
The first five or six answers are the same, since a few people all type at once, and are separated by a few seconds. So you'll see a couple of answers repeat. But I don't answer if I don't know, and I don't answer if it's been said.
Stay tough.

When I give an answer I read the question twice.About half(maybe more) deserve the answer they get. There are a few people that ask the same question everytime they submit ,some answer their own questions and some post questions that should not be posted except in the trash.
Most of my answers can be found in general NASCAR/stock car racing info.Other answers are from the 44 years as a fan.
So bottom line, the question gets the answer for how it is written.
As for adding to other answers I don't read answers until after I have given my answer.

Thank you for bringing this topic up. I am an answerer who often answers in the NASCAR section, and I dislike when people give responses that are ignorant and simply wanting those two points. It's stupid and a waste of time, and I hope people stop.

htere was a guy or a couple of guys depending that were vile and rude and a lot of folks were just getting the 2 points...other than that instance, I think we all have to use some common sense and try our best. Those that do not have a ton of best answers like you might just be trying for the sake of trying, besides answering i dont know is an answer...be tolerant

Normally I agree with you. If I don't know the answer I skip it. In this case I also agree. Not only do they want two points that are worth nothing, they like to see their name or handle on the web site. It's a bit like all those people who have to jump in front of the camera and act like idiots every time someone is trying to do an interview.

I guess you could be right. Maybe it is for the 2 points. Personally, I don't answer if I don't have an answer, idea or opinion to contribute. Maybe this question will make people think more before answering I don't know, again. Good luck.

You said "What does this have to do with nascar???" Nothing.
It has to do with common courtesy and community guidelines. Read the rules! If you don't like it you can get into a chat room with other rude people.

I agree with you 100%. I'm sure that I come across as a know it all, but I really try not to. I try to be as un-bias as possible and I try to stay away from questions that I feel are constantly repeated. I also try to stay away from question that are completely stupid, like the gay questions. I figure, if we dont entertain some of these people (which I think It's pretty much 1 or 2 folks with multiple log ons), maybe they will go away. Great question!!!!!
