Possibly moving to Florida. What areas are good and which are bad??
Due to the awful economy where I live, I am going to have to move out of state if I ever want to use my degree (Elementary Ed). Florida needs teachers very badly, and it is a quick and cheap plane ride home from Orlando or Tampa. I have been looking for jobs with-in an hour of either city. Volusia County needs 700-800 teachers for the fall and Polk County needs about 500. Those are just examples, I have looked at other areas as well. So, where are some good, safe areas to live? I am in my early-to-mid twenties and will be living alone. I want to make sure that I only apply to safe areas! Any help would greatly be appreciated!

The Gainesville area is safe and inexpensive. The cost of apt and housing is moderate because it is a "collage" town. The "night-life" is excellent with tons of interesting things to do. Try to avoid Orlando altogether!
Orlando is a great place to visit, but everyone I've ever known ended up hating living there,(it is a tourist-town with tourist pricing, traffic is HORRIBLE, cost of living is HIGH). A good general rule, in regards to FLA: Coastal regions will have INSANE housing prices,(unless you are near Pensacola/Big Bend area). So, try to find areas near the middle of the state.
Also, teacher's are paid very little VS the cost of living in Tampa /Orlando. Food, housing, taxes, etc will go "up" the further "south" you go,(unless you are an "indian" & live on the reservation).
Your best bet for a "traffic-free, moderate-housing", "Safe" area are, Gainesville "area", "Big-Bend" area, Pensacola area. (Also, you can live on the Alabama/Fla line in Pensacola and benefit greatly from the lower cost of living, housing, etc, that Alabama has, and still get the Fla "atmosphere", IE: beaches. )
Good luck!

I went down there last year thinking of relocating, and after my visit I wasn't impressed. The only place I found was around Bradenton, that's on the gulf side I'm not sure of the county. I had people that used to live there tell me to stay away from Miami and N. Palm Beach, Windemier is where Tiger Woods lives so that must be nice and Palm Beach, but you won't be able to afford those places on a teachers salary. Good luck

I think Lakeland will be the best place for u as it's under Polk County..Very good weather.Risk of cyclone is less.Food cost & room rent also moderate compare to Orlando & Tampa. You will find maximum retired people & snow birds.I moved to this place from Dhaka,Bangladesh about 2 years ago & I
like & love this place.

Stick with the smaller towns, as Orlando is crowded and unsafe-I left there after 50 years, due to those reasons . Gainesville, Ocala, St. Augustine-are all nicer places.
