Any suggestions for cleaning a PC fan?

Dell .. It's the intake fan at the rear. I can see that lint has built

up inside and the fan is now making a noise.

Go to a local computer store, or OFFICE STORE...

Buy this thing called CANNER AIR, its basically a can that shoots AIR OUT in a thin blast...

it is made specifically to blow dust out of computers and clean the keyboards etc....

Read the directions before you use it, dont shake the can and dont tip the can sideways while you spray, or else liquid will come out and possibly ruin a computer component...

The best thing to do, is take the DELL< open the up LEFT SIDE of the computer when you are looking at it from the FRONT... Take it outside, and blow off the BOARD and then the FAN and then both.

with the fan making noise, it might be too late for it (matters what is making the noise). A vacuum cleaner will do fine, just don't touch any of the boards inside the computer. Touching the fan will not harm it ( I do it all the time). I disassemble the fan, clean it with a paint brush, vacuum the dust out of fan and case (computer off), then put the fan back. If the fan still makes noise, probably on it's way out. Get a new fan then.

If you have a little patiants you can unscrew the rear fan and unplug it, bring to a sink and wash it with HOT water untill all the dust has come off. It will leave a very clean and like new fan that will give better performance since the fan is'nt bogged down with dust. Make sure you dry it well before its placed back in the pc so as not to spin watter all over in the case. And if your rear case fan is dirty, you'r CPU fan may as well be caked with it.

We cleaned all the fans in our PC this weekend by using our canister vacuum, we just hooked up the hose attachment and sucked the dust off, we also used a swiffer duster on the rest of the components inside.

open the case and use a can of compressed air, make sure the computer is unplugged and do not get to close to anything other than the fan. air pressure can damage some parts in the computer.

Compressed air and/or a mild alcohol solution. DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner; electro-static discharge can damage internal parts.

canned air is your best bet, in my opinion. they're cheap at Wal-marts. i believe it's the safest for all computer cleaning. good luck!
