Try Western Union, you pay a fee, but they reliable and they are wold wide. Furthermore, the other person receives the money almost inmediatly, it takes just the time the employee needs to introduce the information in the system.
Here is the web where you can get more information and also find a branch office near to you and the person you are trying to send the money:
You are right, I've seen the Western Union web and they seem not to have an agent in South Africa. There is an other possibility, the company name is Pay Pal, in the list of countries where they send money is also South Africa. You will have to call and ask about delivery time, fees etc. Personally I've never used it, but so far I know it should also be reliable because many companies in Germany and also EBay Germany uses their services. Here is the Web Site:

I have been VERY happy with Xoom.com. I have an account in South Africa, so I send money over and it costs me $5. The exchange rate is also pretty close to what the banks with give you.
It is also MUCH faster than any bank transfer.
If you want, you can click my link and Both of us will get a $15 referral fee.

If that person gave you their bank information you can just contact your bank and have it send this way.
If that person wants cash then you can send it by Western Union (google it)
or I have send a check in the past to somebody in another country. Fees will be involved in all cases.

I send money to SA via Moneygram . There are definately branches in DBN as i have sent money to DBN before.
The recipiant has to take ID& proof of address to Moneygram office(as per FICA regulations) and give them the reference no of transaction. (which you will have to tell them ) ,Then they get the money.Simple.
