What should I name my new puppy?
I just got a puppy from the humane society. She is a calahoula leopard hound. I have no idea what to name her...any ideas?
I meant to say catahoula leopard hound!

Congratulations on getting your dogchild. Catahoula brings Louisiana to mind. How about a French name? How about Sophie? About.com is a good resource for names in other languages. Here is the website if you are interested:

Oooo I love Muppet references (obviously -- I named my dog Fozzy). You could go with Grover, Fozzy, Barkley (that's Sesame Street, but whatever), Beaker, Kermit, Dr. Teeth... they are all amazing dog names!
I am kind of a fan of the total classics, which ironically, happen to be pretty unusual in practice. Fido. Rover. Spot. That said, I'd still stick with the Muppets. Waka waka!

I like people names for my dogs. My Fox hound is named Kenny. I like to think my pets are people and therefore I name them after people. :) How about Sarah, Trisha, or maybe get the name off a tv show you like. Good luck to you.

Congrats on the new baby!!! I love dogs.
Whatever you decide make it a 2 syllable name, dogs like that. Oh, and unless you want a full grown dog on your lap for years, don't do it now.
I'd suggest Lucky, because the pooch is lucky to have you. Or Shamrock, I always wanted to name a dog that. Best wishes to you both.

I always try to make a bit of irony in my pet names. My dog has extra claws on his hind legs. So I called him Claude.!! ha ha ha. maybe you can find something like that about your gal. I also like african-type names. I have a calf called Denarli. I had a dog called Bodhi Dharma. And Lord of the rings is always good for odd names. My cousin's dog was Arwen, my old cat was Pippin, my current cat is Perriannath (which means little one in elvish) but we call her Peri. Bella has always been a pretty favourite of mine (have another calf called Bella), cos I think it means beautiful or something in Italian.
Have fun with your little one!
