1999 Ford Taurus?

Looking to buy a 1999 Ford Taurus, would like to know what owners think of their reliability. Has 101,000 miles but seems to be in excellent shape. Any problems known in this car.

I am on my 3rd Taurus. My last one was a 99 and was my favorite. It did not have a single problem during the 3 years I owned it.

    Go for it (my advice).

Hey Devin, I'd advise against choosing this car. They're notorious for their bad transmissions. The V-6, 3.0l motors seem to hold up well, though, usually outliving their transmissions. The high demand for these transmissions has made the cost of rebuld/replacement upwards of $2500 here on the West Coast. I personally had to dispose of an earlier model by donation to charity. Look for a Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Saturn if you want a more dependable, higher mileage car.

Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are essentially the same car, different trim. If you get the 6 it's not a bad car. You get about 10 years out of them.

I have a '97 Taurus with 165k on it. While I have had to make a few repairs, this car has been very reliable. Those repairs that were needed have been very affordable.

If the price is right, go for it!

I am a car dealer and can tell you that if you buy a Taurus, ESPECIALLY one with over 100K.........Taurus's have very weak transmissions and they can blow at any second. The head/head gaskets tend to blow, although a 3.0L isn't as bad about blowing heads as a 3.8L. A/C is an issue in these cars, but not as bad as the older body style. These cars wholesale now (1999 with over 100K) are bringing under $2000. I sold my last Taurus at auction which was a 1998 model with 128K on it for $1600. I would say be very skeptical of the car lasting a long time, but any deal under $3000 is ok for what you are getting. Anything over that is TOO MUCH! GOOD LUCK!

The Ford Taurus is a good car to have at a reasonable price. I got one for my mom in 2002. With all the regular maintenance & surviving a collision with a cow its still running good. It currently has over 100,000 miles.

I would have it checked if it has over 100,000 miles on it. You want to be sure it won't give out on you.

if you live or are buying this car from states that salt the road in the winter, watch out for the front sub frames. they rot out horribly. Ive replaced 5 or 6 in the past 3 months so they can pass inspection. other wise they aren't a bad car. they seem to hold up engine wise. good luck.

Look for the 24 valve v6!made a big difference in the way they drive.watch out for the transmission though! That has always been their downfall.I have an 05 and have been satisfied
