Country music artists have recorded quite a few pro-military and patriotic songs. Can you think of rock songs

that are patriotic or pro-military?

Update:

The troops like the songs that help the public to understand what it means to serve.

Update 2:

I think the country artists that do these songs do genuinely care about the troops.

I like those songs too, Ali.

Update 4:

Actually B, I was thinking of *current* music, and Jimi Hendrix version of the Star Spangled Banner was seen as anti-establishment, not patriotic.

Nashville is very much more supportive than Hollywood for the troops. There isn't one person that comes out of LA that I respect. The country people say "Hey...you do your job, we'll do ours, and support you all the way." Remember, you pay me to do a job YOU won't do. People from the left coast with a high-school education feel the need to "speak out", since they have the forum. I get up every day and risk my life to allow these people the right to have an opinion, but when you give me lip service, saying you support me out of the corner of your mouth, but then denounce the whole operation and the President, you're a hippocrite. Since when did the Office of the President of the United States, and the person filling it, become a punchline? The most powerful man on the planet is mocked and made the butt of jokes by actors, actresses, and singers! Why do people think more of Barbra Streisand (high-school graduate, no college, no political experience) than Condoleeza Rice (BA, MA, PhD) or Geroge Bush (BA Yale, MBA Harvard)? If I have to hear "Babs'" voice at all, it better be singing. Sorry for ranting....but people need to wake up.

I haven't heard of any... then again I'm old.

For Remy and his Anti-Country rant: Chely Wright has a brother in the Marine Corps; Josh Gracin is a former Marine and now a Country Star. Kris Kristofferson was a US Army Officer. George Jones was a Marine... And don't forget that Elvis Presly served in the US Army.

Lee Greenwood's "Proud to Be an American"... was played the once during my recruit training... the day the USS Stark was shot by Iraqi aircraft. I heard it again in the last few minutes of SERE school when our prison camp was "liberated"... 80 guys from 19-30 crying like girls who just got an engagement ring.

I like Daryl Worely's "Have You Forgotten" and "I Just Got Back From a War"... I think they should be played each day in Congress.

    God Bless Country !!

My favorite band in the whole wide world is Cheap Trick. They did a song called World's Greatest Lover that is a story about a man in a foxhole writing a letter to the love of this life during wartime. It's a ballad however. Neil Diamond did Coming To America but in light of all the illegal aliens, that are bankrupting our schools and hospitals, that song is hardly patriotic anymore.

I don't really know of any Rock songs per say, but my favorite at the moment is: "I just come back from a war" by Darryl worley.

I think that it speaks a lot about the way the soldiers feel, and the way some of us think.

I'm just trying to be a father,

Raise a daughter and a son,

Be a lover to their mother,

    Everything to everyone.

Up and at 'em bright and early,

I'm all in my business suit,

Yeah, I'm dressed for success from my head down to my boots,

I don't do it for money, there's still bills that I can't pay,

I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,

Providing for our future's my responsibility,

Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be,

And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been to strong,

I just work straight through the holidays,

    And sometimes all night long.

You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,

Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core,

And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,

I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrafice,

Oh, and I don't want to die for you,

But if dyin's asked of me,

I'll bear that cross with an honor,

    'Cause freedom don't come free.

I'm an american soldier, an american,

Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,

When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right,

I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight.

    American soldier, I'm an American,

    An American,

    An American Soldier

The best rock song is from Team America: World Police. America, F* Yeah!- it is very tongue in cheek but it rocks and is hilarious!

    A snippet:

America, f-yeah, here to save the mother f-ing day yeah, freedom is the only way, yeah,

Terrorists, your game is through, now you have to answer to America, f-yeah!

Country music artists LOVE their country, to bad some others on answers don't.

  • The metal band Iced Earth has a couple, but other than that...I can't really think of any.
