what is this rock?

i have a large rock that is a waxy amber color, cylindrical (approx. 8"x3"), with a crystal lined crevice in the center of each end...anyone? any ideas even?

    It could be a "Geode". Check that out on the internet and see if it looks similar.

    Did you buy it at the seaside?

    Jesting apart, it sounds like amber. Heating amber will soften it and eventually it will burn. Heated rather below 200°C, amber suffers decomposition, yielding an "oil of amber", and leaving a black residue which is known as "amber colophony", or "amber pitch". So, heat a little bit and see what happens.
