If you live in California, go with the b16a, as the b20 is out of the CRV and is considered a "truck" engine, which is not legal to swap into a car. Because of the VTEC head, the b16a will have more top end power, but less low end torque. Depending on your budget, you could go for a b18c, which will be faster than either the b16a or b20. Or get yourself both the b16a and the b20, take the VTEC head off the b16a and with a few simple items, bolt it to the b20 block for a 2.0L VTEC setup.

    For the money, performance, feel?

    Pros:

Depends. Fastest per dollar in stock form would prolly be B16 with a short gear ratio transmission stock b16, gsr, type r, etc.

B20 has a great feel and more torque stock at lower RPMs than many Honda engines. This makes it possible to pass in 5th gear on the highway without downshifting.

    Cons:

B16 is limited by the displacement. Even with bolt-ons it will only be so fast. Also lack of torque.

B20 difficult to smog in some states, no high revving fun. Stock redline is 7000RPM (i think) Also block is weaker on the bottom end due to large piston size.

Depends on the car, the transmission, etc. to determine which motor I would choose.

    Hope that helps

    B16A1

    VTEC

    Found in:

    1989-1991 EUDM Honda CRX 1.6i/VTi (EE8/ED)

    1990-1991 EUDM Honda Civic 1.6iVT (EE9)

    Displacement: 1595 cm³

    Compression: 10.2:1

    Power: 160 hp (117 kW) @ 7600 rpm & 111 ft·lbf (151 N·m) @ 7000 rpm

There is a lot of choices for B20 engine type but the best one is this:

    B21A

    (16-valve, DOHC, PGM-FI)

    Found in:

    1990-1991 Honda Prelude Si States

Very rare, it was only produced for the "Si States" models in Japan

    Power: 185bhp

    Basically i prefer B21A...

Neither. H22 is the wise choice. Way faster than a B16. The same as the B20 but cheaper.
