I really enjoyed "Lazarus and the Hurricane" subtitled The Freeing of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. It's about a young black man back in 1979 who befriends Rubin Carter via letters while Carter is in jail, having been wrongly convicted of killing two white men and a white woman.

The young man's name is Lesra, a corruption of the name Lazarus, and he gets help in his quest to free Carter from a group of Canadians who live together in a commune (a kind of weird element of the book, and real life, that doesn't get explored as much as you might like).

A compelling, intelligent, and solid book. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The movie "The Hurricane" stars Denzel Washington as the former top middleweight boxing contender Rubin Carter.

Not lately but I remember reading Monster by Walter Dean Myer? [I believe]. It was about this guy going on trial and his experiences. It's not quite a prison biography but it's close enough. :X

No, but I'm on the lookout for books covering the Asian crime world. The bookstores have no shortage of books covering the Italian side of things, but I'm not interested in those.

In cold blood, by Truman Capote. Classic, a must read.

No worries if you've watched the movie Capote before reading the book, they are constructed differently.
