    Burn a CD.

For those games, I hope that you saved the install files, and the registration numbers.

Maybe you should just keep that old laptop, just for those games.

    Good luck and Happy Computing!

The easiest way to transfer from one pc to another is to network the two together. and then copy the old harddrive contents to the new system. Of course this will not work with applications.

Applications can put files everywhere and usually store settings in the "registry" which is very hard for an average person to copy. However you can try..

Find the application usually in c:\program files\ app name

and copy it to the same exact path in the new computer and see if it works. If not cotact the author of the app for reinstallation procedures.

Don't forget to copy the "my documents" folder from the old system and then if the old system is a 2000 pro or xp machine also get each individual users directory under "c:\document and settings" that holds the information such as your short cuts and in a hidden system directory the .PST files for outlook containing your email and contacts..

    Do not take a backup.

A backup of your current laptop will contain drivers which are totally incompatible with your new one and could easily stop it booting.

Make sure you have all the install files (probably downloaded) and serial numbers with the associated user names. Then install your purchased software on your new laptop. If you do not have the install files then contact the software companies with your registration details and they should be able to help you without purchasing the software agaibn.

I can sympathsize. If this were my problem I would buy a stack of fifty CDs and hand them and my laptop to my best friend who knows how to do it properly and say "Here. Would you please make me a full system back-up? You may have the CDs that are left over as a Thank You."

Source(s): Getting it done right would be worth every farthing. There has to be someone out there who is that kind to you all the time, so this would just be a favor you would be asking, but with a Thank You.

you could get an external enclosure for the old drive and plug it in via usb and copy the files over

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************

buy a external drive anyway because after you have used it for this questions purpose you can use it for file backups or extra storage.
