    Source(s): The Gulf Cup (Arabic: كأس الخليج‎) is a football (soccer) tournament held every two years, open to teams from around the Persian Gulf. The Gulf Cup was founded at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico by Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The First Gulf Cup tournament took part in Bahrain in 1970 which kuwait won it. The 18th edition of the Gulf Cup is scheduled to begin on January 17, 2007 in the United Arab Emirates. Group A comprises United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman and Group B comprises Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain. The top two teams in each of the round-robin groups proceed to the next round.

    the first ever Gulf Cup takes place in 1970 in BAHRAIN. 4 teams take part in the tournament & all matches was played on a league basis, meaning all teams play against each other once. KUWAIT was the first Gulf Cup champions, winning all 3 matches.
