recipe for maui wowie pizza?

1 can refrigerated pizza crust (make crust yourself if you have time)

Ingredients for pizza crust:

1 pkg. active dry yeast

1 1/4 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees)

3 1/2 to 4 cups sifted flour, divided

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

for pizza topping:

1/2 cup pizza sauce

1 cup shredded cheese

1 cup fresh pineapple, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 cup ham, cut into bite-sized chunks

Preparation:

Sprinkle yeast over warm water; stir to dissolve. Add 2 cups flour, salt and sugar. Beat thoroughly, then stir in remaining flour. Turn onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth elastic, about 10 minutes, adding more flour as needed to keep dough from sticking. Place in greased bowl and turn dough over to grease top. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. Punch down, turn onto board and knead just long enough to force out bubbles.Unroll dough and place onto a greased cookie sheet. Cut the dough into sections to divide among your kids. Using butter knives, help your kids cut each section into a fish shape (an oblong shape with an attached triangle for the tail). Always supervise knife use by children.Spread pizza sauce onto the fish. Top with cheese, ham and pineapple chunks. Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or until cheese melts.

Ingredients:

1 clove garlic, mashed and minced

1 teaspoon salt

1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste

1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1/8 teaspoon pepper

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1 tablespoon olive oil

dash red pepper, optional

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients. Makes about 1 1/2 cups, enough for 2 pizzas.

I have had several versions of Maui Wowie Pizza and the sauce has always been a tomato based sauce. The toppings vary from just pineapple and ham or sometimes red onion.
