How do I improve my memory?

I have conversations with people and forget I had them a few hrs later, then about 2 or 3 weeks later (sometimes) I remeber i had them like it was yesterday. I tend to repeat what i say alot to people and some people think it is wierd that i have the same conversation with them over and over again. I am trying to figure a way to improve my memory or something that helps with it but i have found nothing that works, is their any help out their?

Update:

I am not over 60, I am 30. I have always been like this. My memory just sucks.

The brain is a muscle, so they say, the more we exercise it the better it works.

So, start playing some games that require short term memory. Like cards. Even solitare can be helpful. It exercises your short term memory. Once you are winning often enough at solitare to be bored move on to more challenging games.

There are techniques for having better memory. One of the best techniques is to remind yourself immediately after the event, what just happened. So you meet, Jane and discuss weather.

Immediately after you walk away from Jane instead of letting your mind fill with the next stimulous that comes into view, replay the conversation with Jane. Just something quickly like Jane thinks rain tomorrow.

Then go on to the next thing. In a few minutes like 10 min. Ask yourself what did I do 10 min. ago? It will usually come right back. I saw Jane, she thinks rain tomorrow.

Every few minutes just ask yourself what was going on 10 minutes ago. As you practice short term memory recall you will get better and better at it.

When you don't take the 3 seconds to replay things immediately afterward, they are going to be harder to recall, so get into that habit. Just with stuff that you want to remember.

I practise this with small things. Like I put something in the micro for 2 minutes, then leave the room. I try to get back there before the bell rings, I have to keep my micro meal in my head for 2 minutes and keep track of it. This is a fun way for me to exercise my brain.

if this is a sudden new problem OR your over age 60 see a doc...but if not start taking some folic acid each day, eat healthy, try some ginkgo biloba. go to a vitamin store (gnc is good) and ask what might help.

I think you're a lost cause. :) Try the ginkgo and see where that takes you. Lay off the sex, that can mess with your memory as well....the euphoric feeling makes you forget things. I'm sure your girlfriend wont mind.

Source(s): I had to put that last one in there...just something to help jog your memory (because you did say we would go there, even though you deny it)...don't say I don't understand your job and time off either!
