Will England continue to subsidise the North of Ireland for ever, following the break up of the U. K.?

When Scotland gains its Independence, and Wales follows them, will England expect them to help foot the Bill. At present the Irish Government are paying for some projects in N.Ireland.

Eh.......Germany had to pay compensation to the countries it done over in WWII.....which lasted 6 years.

Britain plundered Ireland and enslaved it's people for centuries.... will they compensate Northern Ireland, no, but they should....

England will take in any stray dog that washes up on our door step to a fault. Tax payers are subsidising immigrants from everywhere and pretty soon we will be bankrupt. I have no problem with our neighbours of wale/scotland/ireland. But we should take the Austrlian and Canadian approach with everyone else, they have to be of benifit to the UK (ie have a skill and be self effecient) before they set foot here, or are we some kind of charity.

I hope the english have to pay thru the nose for at least another 50years. The higher the cost and the more upset they get the better. Nothing like watching englishmen have a bad time. Role on the next world cup.

Their econmies will probaby tank for awhile if they get their independence and they will expect everyone else to foot the bill. But I say let them have their independence just for the sake of not having to hear them whine anymore.

Why shouldnt it? They made Northern IRELAND part of the UK a long time ago! Does it remind you of the Empire and all that that has heaped on this country?

DesignSTE. Great answer and I 100% agree with you.

Source(s): Setanta M Germany did not pay compensation after World War 2 only too the Jews who suffered in the Holocaust I beleive. They did pay compensation after World War 1 which in turn kept Germany poor and led to the rise of Hitler. The allies learned from their mistake. It's no use going on about events that occured generations ago as no one alive can be held responsible for what has gone before. That sort of argument is a bit pointless and serves no purpose other than to feed extreme nationalism and hatred. My family were farm labourers for many generations, what would they have known what was happening around the world when they were just struggling to live themselves at the bottom of the pile.
