In CA is it legal for an employer.....?

To have Exempt employees required to use PTO hours for partial day absensces?

My employer claims this is legal because of our firms status of Government Contractors. I am a Full-Time-Exempt.

Update:

I should add that my previous CA employer was sued for this and the employees won. We no longer had to claim partial days.

An employer may not deduct wages from exempt employees for partial days missed, but they are able to make employees cover the time missed from accrued time off accounts. (Sick, vacation or personal time) Government contractors or not. You can check the federal labor laws covering exempt employees under the department of labor to read about it.
