Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant began construction in Tennessee in 1973. It isn't even 100% complete!?

Now they need more funding to update the reactor when the second tower has never produced a single watt of electricity. Why must we continue to fund these towering elephants that aren't producing? When will we use the technology to our advantage? Can we please build, produce, and move forward? How do we make our legislators wake up and see that we are tired of funding duds?!

"Construction began in 1973, and Unit 1 began full commercial operation in 1996. In 1988 TVA suspended construction of Unit 2 because of a reduction in the predicted growth of power demand. The unit remains idle."

So the first tower is active and "producing." The second tower was simply delayed because lack of need. But there's nothing wrong with preparing for the future.

I live just miles from Watts Bar, and the electric rates here are about the lowest in the nation.
